- Welcome to EquiSport Hoof Care -

Dave Gilliam has been a professional farrier for over 20 years, and is based in Wellington, Florida, but works throughout the United States. His winter months are in Wellington, and the summer months are spent between Kentucky , Pennsylvania, and other areas of the northeast catering to his clients. He specializes in the farriery of performance sport horses and podiatry/lameness cases. His skills focus on hunters, jumpers, and dressage horses. Dave graduated from the Royal Veterinary College's Equine Locomotor Research program, a prestigious graduate-level course that concluded with a scientific research project and thesis.

Dave has worked with riders from several countries’ Pan American teams, past and present Olympic horses and riders, World Equestrian Games (WEG), and bi-coastal top circuit riders to keep their show strings in top performance condition. He’s been fortunate to work with some prestigious clients and trainers, as well as horses, some including jumpers: Cloud Nine and K2, who were previously ridden by Olympic riders; several USEF Horses of the Year and High Performance Hunters (money won), as well as multiple WCHR Champions and others. Dave enjoys working and collaborating with veterinarians, as a team approach is essential for success. His perspective is that farriery is an essential component to maintaining equine athletes, and he takes pride in providing an exceptional service.

Dave's philosophy is to work from a proactive position, rather than one of reactive, as noticing potential issues before they cause a problem minimizes lameness, time out of training/showing, and risk of permanent damage. This allows the horse to move and perform at its best!  Dave prioritizes communication and teamwork with all members of the horse care team, and work with veterinarians on a regular basis to ensure that the horse gets the best care possible.
