- About -

Dave Gilliam has been a professional farrier for over 20 years. He is based out of Wellington Florida with travel throughout the US to cater to his clients and their show schedules.  Dave has always had a strong focus on performance horses and lameness cases, and frequently works with veterinarians to optimize success.  Adding to his 20 plus years of experience, Dave was one of only twenty-four farriers in the world to graduate from Royal Veterinary College's Equine Locomotion program where he completed a scientific research project and thesis.  He is also the current President of the American Association of Equine Soundness Professionals, a collaborative organization made up of farriers and veterinarians that focus on lameness.

- Equisport Hoof Care Concept for Success -

"Just because a horse is sound doesn't mean it is moving or performing at its best and full potential." Setting up hunter and jumper athletes requires understanding of their job and what is asked of them.  This is Dave’s specialty, as he has watched and studied hunters and jumpers in and out of the ring for years, providing him with the knowledge and experience to cater to these clients.  Observations as well as communication with the rider and trainer give him the tools needed to set up each athlete to reach its full athletic potential. Among many things, Dave is able to manipulate stride, speed the front end up, eliminate cross cantering, and correct lead changes based on what each horse needs.

It is inevitable these athletes will suffer an injury at some point in their life or have a soundness issue.  This is where Dave’s lameness focus and background allow him to develop a shoeing protocol to get these horses sound and back in the show ring.
