- Hunter and Jumpers -

A horse being sound does not mean the horse is performing to their full potential. There are so many factors and other considerations that need to be addressed that can help you get the most out of your horse and have the best possible success in the ring. Understanding many things like the class the horse is showing in; how to help the horse move at its best; footing considerations related to your shoeing; gait; any previous injuries; support; mechanics; and a lot more need to be considered and implemented to get the best out of each horse. Horses and farriery are not a "cookie cutter" business. You cannot "shoe them all the same". Your horse and his job need to be understood so it can be set up the best possible way for him. Depending on each horse, some of the things that we need to be able to do include:

  • Increase fluidity of gait

  • Eliminate cross-firing

  • Eliminate interference and over-reaching

  • Speed up or slow down the front end or hind end

  • Influence stride length

  • Set up/modify shoes based on footing at the competition

  • And much more

Working closely with our trainers/riders and veterinarians is essential to optimize the performance and soundness of each individual horse, allowing success in the show ring.
